Hi all, the starlight conference is completed, 130 attendees from all over the world. Covered all aspects of light pollution from human health, environment, lighting engineering, Astro tourism, satellite proliferation, astronomy appreciation, etc. proceedings will eventually be published with all PowerPoint slides and video of talks. May be a while but when available I will send a link for anyone interested.
A brashear 18 inch scope is set up in Tekapo by the lake, originally from university Pennsylvania, was refurbished and sent here. Sadly does not seem to get much use as it should but plenty of other telescopes around
2 nights ago spent the night with a professional astronomer and reveled in observing the region around the South Pole, Magellanic Clouds and center of Milky Way
All I can say is wow.
Made friends with an astrophotographer, and we plan on staying in touch and sharing our image subs so we can process each others images ourselves. I will occasionally be happy to share some really Deep South images this way.
Mario
Thanks for the great summary,Mario,
I remember how emotional I felt when I saw the iconic Southern objects for the first time(In contrast to some Aussies I met who had never seen the Little Dipper.)
