Subject: [DarkSky MA] Climate Bill fails
In case you haven't heard, legislators got absolutely nothing done on climate this year. Our dark sky bill was pulled out of the House Bill, as we're several other good bills, at the last minute. In the end, neither side would compromise. No bills were passed on the environment or climate or fossil fuel reduction. The bill that Senator Creem dropped us for, the bottle bill, also failed.
One takeaway is that our bill did well overall, it got farther than most. Another might be that because the state house is so broken, an omnibus bill might not be a good idea. I did learn a bit more about why we had to go through the Ways and Means committees. Some legislators think our bill involves budget and therefore we can't go to the Third Reading committee instead. I also heard the house minority leader voiced support for our bill on the floor. I'll be following up on that, very critical to get minority support if we go to the informal session...
In any case, that's likely it for this session. I've heard that the informal session may be more active than usual because so little was done, we'll see!
Here's an writeup of the situation:

Well, do nothing is better than doing stupid things… (the optimistic view)

(I was thinking climate change, not the dark sky legislation - I am all for it).
